RI-Apiculture provides coverage for lost honey production due to insufficient plant growth caused by below normal precipitation.
Not all colonies within the operation must be insured.
Apiculture is a USDA subsidized crop insurance product available to honeybee operations that provides protection for a single peril – Lack of precipitation.
It is an area-based policy that uses NOAA data to pay indemnities when precipitation is below historical averages. Sales close annually on December 1st for the following year.
There is no upfront premium, and no record-keeping for you and once your policy is written, claims are automatic. There are a variety of coverage levels and premium options that can be tailored to match any type of budget or business plan.
Let me help you make solid choices on coverage level, index intervals, productivity factor, and the number of colonies you wish to insure (you don’t have to insure them all). We will also review the Grid IDs for your area to determine where to assign your acreage to maximize coverage and minimize cost.
This program is designed to give you the ability to buy insurance protection for losses in Honey Production, Collection of Pollen, Wax or Bee Breeding.
I am an experienced Crop Agent who is familiar with PRF Insurance and will help you get the right coverage for your operation.
Remember, the sales closing date and deadline to enroll in the RI-Apiculture Program is December 1st for the following year.
